In case ya missed it, I thought I'd share a few of the moments from a recent trip I took with my mom and sister.  We have never done a trip like this, normally opting for the full-fam variety, but since the sister and I got married last year, a plan has been brewing to steal away and get some good 'ole-fashioned gal time.

We started the trip in San Francisco.  Stayed at a hotel with a luxurious lookout and great cocktails.  We touted around Hayes Valley wandering in and out of one-off shops and farm to table eateries.  If you're interested, our trip itinerary is posted below the link for your viewing and researching pleasure.  We had a blast without a schedule--laughing, eating, and exploring a hidden little neighborhood in the city.  That night, we went to an amazing restaurant right under the Bay Bridge.  If you are ready to pay a pretty penny for some killer seafood--I mean, this is your place!

Sunday, we packed up our bags and hit the road for Sonoma.  Most of what I knew of the town was from wine bottles and The Bachelor (ugh), so I was thrilled to see the thriving little small-town, farmer-like community surrounding the prestigious craft of wine-making.  It was extremely pleasant and inviting and everyone we ran into loved their town.  That is pretty cool.

For the wine tour, we had an AMAZINGLY precious and knowledgeable driver (so responsible of us) that set-up our appointments and picked out a few vineyards to visit based on our "palette preferences" and style.  Well, she did great!  Each of the places was so different and had a completely different vibe.   At one of the vineyards in Napa, there was a self-paced audio tour of the property, which was just info not to bore you, but to make you feel like you had a 1000% better grip on wine than you had before you came.  Which, for me was cool because I like processes and nerding out.

And on Monday we had the spa treatment OF MY LIFE.  Seriously--never have I been so pampered.  A scrub, a rose bath and a massage and scalp treatment.  I was butter by time it was all said and done.  That night, we went in to Napa again for some eats and--by some weird twist of events--ended up scheduling a Reiki session with a friend of our wine tour driver, who is also a Reiki instructor!  I had never really experienced any meditation or healing sessions quite like this before, but as soon as we entered our instructor's house, I felt the peace and goodness of her home and the presence of serenity and healing.  After the pampered day we had already experienced, ending the day with healing meditation was a super-special experience for each of us.

We laughed together pretty constantly, had a few mother-daughter or sister-sister moments, acted like adults, acted like 13-year olds, road-tripped like champs, explored like Columbus, shopped like... well, Gaynor, ate like foodies that just got back from a desert isolation, and had the time of our lives together.  But at the end of it all, this trip was about far more than just the wine and pampering.  These little ladies are my best friends, my confidants, my heart-checkers and fellow-rule breakers.  I am so very and utterly thankful to have them both in my life so constantly.

AS PROMISED, Trip Insider Info:

Mom ate *ALL* that candy.  There were a few times (ya know, after pizza and cheese bread, etc., etc.) that we actually questioned her mental stability.

Aubrey brings a *case* of sungalasses on any given trip.

Mom packed 1 GIANT suitcase.  Aubrey packed 1 GIANT suitcase, and a carry-on suitcase. While I packed my 1 little carry-on (that has the capacity of Mary Poppin's tote, I swear). However, rocking up to the airport, I felt quite insecure about my "efficient" packing decisions.

We all had sleep lines at least 2 of the mornings that lasted until about noon.

And from there, Tuesday morning, we packed up our bags and headed back to our men!  It is an amazing gift to be able to travel and see different parts of this big earth, but there is always something so sweet about coming home.
